Relationships
Do you find yourself having the same fights with your partner, over and over?
Most people come into relationship therapy when their relationship has hit a point of crises, when the old skills you used to maintain your relationship just don't work anymore, the passion has died, or a breach of trust has happened. You still care about each other, but you are tired of fighting or feel disengaged and hopeless. But the fact that you are willing to show up for this process means that there is hope.
Relationships in Therapy
You may feel like you know each other so well it is hard to imagine that another person could help you get to know each other better. Or you may feel like your communication has broken down so badly that there is no hope for repair. My job is to help you recognize the patterns in your relationship and learn how not to re-enact them with each other.
My training in Emotionally Focused Therapy is geared towards giving people in relationships the tools they need to identify the dynamic they enact with each other and to come together to reconstruct a better pattern of communication. We will focus on tracking how each of you contributes to the dynamic, how you play off each other, and together we will learn to catch that pattern early and disrupt it so that it won't play out as usual. Then we will move towards creating a new, more productive way to communicate with each other.
With this greater clarity, you may grow closer together, reignite the passion in your relationship, or realize that it is time to let this bond go. Hopefully whatever you choose in the end, the process of therapy will help you realize and actualize what you want with more ease.
